Women National Team participated in the WABA Championships

Big news for women basketball as Iran is joining the list by sending their women national team to the WABA Championships. So far the news from Iranian basketball were dominated only by men league, which is one of the top ones in Asia. The situation will not change. However it's very important to mention a significant step as for the first time after the revolution, Iranian women national team just participated in the international event. The tournament is WABA (West Asian Basketball Association) and it takes place in Alleppo in Syria.
It's a big step as if the changes go in proper direction (if that's not too early to talk about it), Iran would be capable to create one of the strongest women leagues in Asia. Asian women basketball is dominated by China, which have way stronger team than any other Asian country can assemle. The only professional women league in Asia, which allows import players is Japan. Even Korean KWBL, which used to allow import players, changed the rules and they declared their league off-limit for imports. Many WNBA players, who have the league only in summer months in the States, do not have chance to play during regular winter season. They have just Europe and two other countries (Australia and Philippines) to choose from, so it's a very limited job market. I do not think Iran would go with the full speed to turn Iranian women league into fully high-level professional organization like they did with men basketball. Afterall men sport is way more promoted in Iran than women disciplines. But regardless of that it's a huge step ahead and we should congratulate Iranian federation for achieving milestone in this area.
