Changwon LG Sakers (KBL) confirmed in their roster 30-year old Egyptian ex-international center Assem Marei (206cm-113kg-1992, college: MSU) for upcoming 2022-2023 season.

Marei was a team leader there last season. In 53 KBL games he had very impressive stats: 16.4ppg, 13.5rpg (leader !!!), 3.2apg and 1.8spg (in top 2). The last season he played at Galatasaray in Turkish BSL where in 11 games he recorded 7.3ppg and 4.8rpg in 2020-2021 season. He also played 1 game in Basketball Champions League where he averaged just 2 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal.

The other team he played shortly was Metropolitans in French Betclic ELITE ProA. In 7 games he got 10.1ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.7apg. Marei also played 8 games in Eurocup where he got 13.3ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.5apg.

He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Marei was also a member of Egyptian international program for some years. He played for Egyptian Senior National Team two years ago and previously for U19 National Team back in 2011.

Marei represented Egypt at the Afrobasket Championship in Rades (Tunisia) seven years ago. His stats at that event were 7 games: 10.1ppg, Reb-5 (8.4rpg), 2.6apg, FGP: 44.1%, FT: 47.5%.
He has played also professionally in Germany (Brose Bamberg and Bayreuth), Lithuania (Siauliai) and Turkey (Pinar Karsiyaka).
Marei graduated from Minnesota State University Mankato in 2015 and it will be his eighth season as a professional player.
He could be described: A very promising inside player, that coul be very successful even at NCAA level. Has size, talent and personality, he's very effective around the basket. Marei's now a combination of heart, hustle and some nifty footwork.
