Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC We bring you last week's top former Jayhawks players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
Especially interesting is good performance of Devon Dotson (12 points), Thomas Robinson (13 points), and Jeff Withey (21 points).
#1. Devon Dotson, a 6'2'' point guard who graduated from Kansas in 2020 after helping them win the Big 12 Regular Season Champion title, now plays professionally in Turkey. Recently, he showcased his skills while leading Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul to a resounding 108-83 victory over the seventh-ranked Galatasaray in a highly anticipated match in the Turkish ING Basketbol Super Ligi. Dotson's impressive performance included 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in just 20 minutes of play. Currently, Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul holds the second position in the league with a record of 25-5, thanks in part to Dotson's consistent contributions. Throughout the season, he has maintained solid statistics, averaging 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game across the 28 games he has played. Dotson's impact on the court has not only elevated his team's performance but has also reinforced his standing as a true champion and finalist.
#2. Experienced champion Thomas Robinson, a 6'8'' center and 35-year-old alumnus of Jayhawks from 2012, who received the All-Big 12 Player of the Year award that year, currently plays professionally in Puerto Rico. In a recent game, Robinson, despite his commendable efforts, was unable to lead the fourth-placed Indios de Mayaguez (8-13) to a win. The team suffered a defeat on the road against the second-ranked Capitanes in Group A with a score of 85-95. Robinson showcased his skills by scoring 13 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and playing for 30 minutes during the game. This loss marked Indios de Mayaguez's fifth consecutive defeat. In a previous game against Arecibo, Robinson displayed an impressive performance, contributing 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. However, his team was unable to secure the victory on that occasion. Throughout this year, the finalist has maintained solid statistics, averaging 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in the two games he has played so far.
#3. Jeff Withey, a 7'0'' center and 36-year-old former Kansas graduate from 2013, is currently showcasing his skills as a professional player in Indonesia. In a recent game, he led Pelita Jaya to a thrilling 84-82 victory over the eighth-ranked RANS PIK team in the Indonesian Basketball League. Withey's outstanding performance earned him the MVP title of the game, as he contributed 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks during the intense 37-minute match. Pelita Jaya Bakrie Jakarta, with a remarkable record of 18-2, holds the top position in the league standings thanks to Withey's contributions on the court. Withey's exceptional statistics for the season further underscore his impact as a key player in the team, averaging 16.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.6 blocks (the second-best in the league), and 1.3 steals per game over 21 appearances. His consistent performance and valuable contributions highlight his status as a true champion in the league.
#4. Nicolas Timberlake, a 6'4'' guard and 27-year-old Jayhawks alum from 2024, currently playing professionally in Belgium, showcased his skills in a recent game against the Antwerp Giants. Although he performed admirably, scoring 9 points and grabbing 6 rebounds in just 17 minutes of play, his team, Hubo Limburg United, was unable to secure a victory, falling 73-84 to the second-ranked Giants. Despite Timberlake's impressive individual performance, his team ultimately could not overcome the strong opposition. This season, Timberlake has been maintaining solid averages of 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game across six games, demonstrating his consistent contribution to the team's efforts on the court.
