South Korea celebrate title in Tehran - Aug 28, 2022

South Korea - Japan 77-73 South Korea topped Japan to celebrate the trophy in Tehran. Japan eked out a narrow 46-44 halftime lead. They held South Korea to just 15 points in the third term to open a 5-point advantage. But South Korea answered with a strong 18-9 run in the fourth frame to snatch the victory and claim the first U18 Asian crown since 2000. Lee Juyeong (2004) posted 28 points, while Lee Haesol (2004) added 12 points for the champions. Hayato Wakugawa (194-SF-2004) replied with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for Japan. Kaisei Hoshikawa (193-SF-2004) chipped in 14 points in the loss.

China - Lebanon 85-68 China claimed the third position in Tehran. They overcame Lebanon in the Bronze medals game. Liu Lijia (206-C-2004) came up with 22 points for the winners. Lebanon grabbed a 25-20 lead after ten minutes of action. But China ignited a 46-19 response in the next two periods to surge ahead for good. Yang Hansen (2005) had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Karim Rtail (198-F-2004) answered with 21 points for Lebanon.

Iran - Philippines 89-72 Iran clinched the fifth position as they overcame Philippines in Tehran. The hosts used a 25-13 run in the second period to open a 13-point halftime lead. Iran extended the margin at 20-point mark at the final break and never looked back en route to the victory. Five players scored in double digits for the hosts. Matyar Ahmadpour (180-SG-2004) and Mohammad Amini (192-G-2005, agency: BIG) notched 19 points each for Iran. Mason Amos (201-C-2004) answered with 22 points for Philippines.

Qatar - Taiwan 71-93 Taiwan earned the seventh place in Iran as they beat Qatar in the final game at the tournament. Qatar eked out a 41-38 halftime lead. But Taiwan went on a massive 55-30 run in the second half to ease to the victory. Yeh Wei-Chieh (2005) connected for 23 points, while Chun-Cheng Chang added 20 points and 11 assists for Taiwan. Qatar responded with 24 points and 9 rebounds from Hamad Mousa (194-F-2006).

Group Semifinals
South Korea - China 89-85 South Korea beat their big rival, a team from China, and advanced into the Final of this tournament. Kang Sungwook (2004) led South Korea to a magnificent victory with his 26 points 6 rebounds and 7 assists. He had great help from Lee Juyeong (2004) who scored 29 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds contributing to 4 point margin victory and a big celebration for his team. For the Chinese team, Yang Hansen (2005) scored 17 points with 11 rebounds, which was not enough for Finals this time.
Lebanon - Japan 67-80 Lebanon didn't succeed to surprise Japan in the second Semifinal pairing. The Japanese side was better by 13 points, as they were led by the amazing trio, Yuto Kawashima (201-F-2005), Hiyuu Ozawa (188-SF-2004), and Hayato Wakugawa (194-SF-2004). Those 3 players combined 48 points and 24 rebounds. Only Wakugawa had 13 rebounds, while Ozawa had 21 points and Kawashima had 19. In Lebanon, Karl Kozah (192-SG-2004) had 17 points.

Iran - South Korea 65-66 The closest game of this Quarter-Finals and South Korea was luckier to finish this game on the victorious side. Matyar Ahmadpour (180-SG-2004) had a chance to send Iran to the big semi-finals stage but he missed a 3PT shoot in the last seconds of the game, Yun Kichan (2004) grabbed a defensive rebound and that was the end of hopes for Iran to be in Big Four. Mohsen Asgarinia (198-F-2004) was best in Iran with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while South Korea's most dominant performance we saw from Lee ChaeHyung (2004) with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 steals.
China - Qatar 88-44 China with strong 25:10 in the first quarter was a good indication that this story for Qatar will not go as planned. China confirmed their domination in all remaining quarters winning them comfortably with 7, 7, and 15 points each for a total of +44 in their favor. Ma Mingkun (2004) scored 12 points with 7 assists and 5 steals. For Qatar, Abdulla Al-Abdulla (177-PG-2005) scored 9 points.
Lebanon - Philippines 99-83 Lebanon did not give a single chance to the Philippines in this Quarter-Final battle. Even though the Philippines won last period of the game at 19:30, that was not nearly enough to jeopardize Lebanon's lead that they make in the first three quarters. Bryan Mansour (188-PG-2004) with big-game-performance, splashing 28 points with 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Karim Rtail (198-F-2004) scored 25 points for Lebanon and grabbed 6 rebounds with 4 assists. For the Philippines Mason Amos (201-C-2004) who was a leader with points per game in this tournament now scored 11 points with 7 rebounds.
Taiwan - Japan 60-76 Japan proved its strength against Taiwan winning 3 out of 4 quarters with a 5+ margin each time. They did shoot better for 2PT (36.1-44.4) and also had 7 rebounds more than Taiwan. Japan's biggest lead was 23 in this game. Hayato Wakugawa (194-SF-2004) scored 14 points with 11 rebounds for a double-double game, Shonryu Yaegashi (185-SG-2004) had 19 points. Taiwan was led by Kuo Chun-Yen (2005) with 17 points and 6 rebounds.

Japan - Iran 66-68 Tough game but Iran managed to win this game and go to the Quarter-Finals. Such a dramatic ending to this Group Stage for Iranian National Team. They needed the win to advance and they did it! Insane contribution from Starting Five players (66 out of 68 points), 39 total rebounds.
MVP award goes to Mohammad Amini (192-G-2005, agency: BIG) who scored 23 points and had 6 rebounds, the true leader of his team. The second best in Iran was Mohsen Asgarinia (198-F-2004) with 10 points and 12 rebounds. In Japan, Tajon Jacobs (201-SG-2004) came strongly from the bench with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists for a total index of 17.
Group B
South Korea - China 74-89 Despite the loss in this game, South Korea managed to advance to the knockout phase where they will face the National Team of Iran in 1/4 of this tournament. This game was from beginning to end in China's favor. They controlled the game and won comfortably with 15 points margin. China will face Qatar in the Knock-Out round. Liu Lijia (206-C-2004) scored 18 points, had 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists for 28 index points, Wang Haoran (2004) was second best in China with 18 points and 9 rebounds. In South Korea Lee Juyeong (2004) had a blast of a game with 24 points and 4 assists.
Group C
Syria - Qatar 66-83 This game was 'win-or-go-home' for Qatar and they won it! A strong performance against the Syrian Team and they are advancing now to the 1/4 Finals where they will play against China. Both teams are having identical statistics but the key to this win was the better shooting of the Qatar Team and they were calmer when it was most important. Qatar was led by Moustapha Ndao (188-C-2005) with 20 points, and 10 assists for his double-double performance, he also collected 4 assists and 3 steals for a total index of 21 and when he was on the court Qatar dominated the game as he had +/-30 alongside his name. In Syrian team's best was Omar Makanas (2004) with 20 points and 8 rebounds, we need to mention also Mohamed Eid (195-C-2004) who grabbed 11 rebounds had 5 steals, and also contributed to the Syrian record with 7 points total.
Taiwan - Philippines 73-84 This was the game for the No.1 spot in this group and the Philippines showed how dominant they are over their opponents from Group C. They grab their third win in a row and finish this group with a 3-0 record which will arrange them 'meeting' against Lebanon in the 1/4 Finals. Taiwan will play against Japan in the knock-out phase. Mason Amos (201-C-2004) with another amazing game, this time with 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. James Nacua (193-SG-2004) scored 16 points. In losing team of Taiwan, Chang Chun-Sheng (183-F-2004) scored 24 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Lebanon - Japan 63-84 Japan managed to record their first win on their opening of this tournament, beating Lebanon with a comfortable margin of +21. They controlled the game from beginning to end, winning three out of four quarters. They lost only the third period of the game with 23:19 but that was not nearly enough for Lebanon to endanger them. Yuto Kawashima (201-F-2005) was MVP of the game with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Rui Todoroki (167-PG-2004) scored 17 points, and had 5 rebounds and 7 assists. On Lebanon National Team Karim Rtail (198-F-2004) had a double-double performance with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Group B
India - South Korea 63-100 South Korea joined China in first place with a 1-0 record after this game. Korea beat India with a +37 point difference. Winning all four quarters with a 5+ point difference. India was led by Udit Ravish (198-PF-2004) with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, Harsh Dagar (189-SG-2005) who played all 40 minutes, scored 15 points and had 6 rebounds and 6 assists. For South Korea, five players scored at least 13 points, while Lee Juyeong (2004) had 21 and three more players had 17 points alongside their names. Lee added also 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. But MVP of this game was Lee ChaeHyung (2004) with a triple-double with steals+points+assists, quite extraordinary. He combined 13 points, 10 assists, and 10 steals. He was 5 rebounds away from a quadruple double.
Group C
Syria - Taiwan 60-81 Chang Chun-Sheng (183-F-2004) led his Taiwan National Team to a second victory in this tournament and now they are sitting with a 2-0 record, the same as the Philippines, sharing first place in their group. CHANG scored 21 points and had 6 assists and 5 rebounds for a total index of 19. Kuo Chun-Yen (2005) also had 19 index points with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. In the losing team of Syria, George Kastntin (185-G-2004) scored 18 points and had 3 rebounds. Syria is now 0-2 after this round.
Qatar - Philippines 61-77 The second half was key for this game and the Philippines victory. They managed to play a lot better in the second twenty minutes mark as they won the third quarter with 13:20 and the last period of the game with 13:23 for a victory of 77:61. They are still perfect after two rounds with a 2-0 record and they will play in the knockout phase of this tournament. Mason Amos (201-C-2004) scored 19 points and had 7 rebounds for a total index of 20. In Qatar National Team, Mohammed Abbasher (198-F-2004) and Moustapha Ndao (188-C-2005) each scored 14 points, while Abbasher added also 10 rebounds and 4 assists to his name.

China - India 105-65 China cruised past India in the opener. China claimed a 54-28 halftime lead. They erupted for 51 points in the second half to ease to the victory. Liu Jinyu (2005) came up with 28 points to pace the winners. Harsh Dagar (189-SG-2005) answered with 19 points for India.

Philippines - Syria 112-48 Philippines stormed past Syria to open win count in Tehran. Philippines grabbed a 53-16 halftime lead. They fired 59 points in the second half and eased to the victory. Mason Amos (201-C-2004) connected for 26 points, while Seven Gagate (203-C-2004) added 19 points and 9 rebounds in the win. George Kastntin (185-G-2004) netted 12 points for Syria.
Taiwan - Qatar 96-62 Taiwan rallied past Qatar to ensure 1-0 record in Tehran. Taiwan claimed a 52-28 halftime advantage. They followed with a 25-15 run in the fourth quarter to rally to the victory. Yeh Wei-Chieh (2005) dropped 21 points for the winners. Mohammed Abbasher (198-F-2004) answered with 19 points for Qatar.
