Philippine Patriots win inaugural ASEAN League

Satria Muda - Philippine Patriots 67:75
Philippine Patriots wrote history tonight. They overcame Satria Muda to
sweep the ASEAN League championship series. The Patriots thus became the
first champions of the newly created ASEAN League.
Jason Dixon (205-C-73, college:
Liberty) led the charge with 28 points and 12 rebounds.
Satria Muda hosted the third game of the series and having their backs
against the wall surged ahead early.
Rony Gunawan (193-F/C-80) and
Alexander Hartman (201-F-85, college:
Concordia (OR)) gave the hosts a 12:5 lead. They maintained the
advantage and finished the opening stanza ahead by 4 points 17:13.
However
Gabe Freeman (198-F-85, agency:
Union Sports, college:
Costa Mesa JC) and
Jason Dixon quickly denied the deficit in the second frame. The
teams traded baskets for some time before the visitors earned a 35:31
lead at halftime. The Patriots tipped off the second half with seven
points in a row as the margin grew.
Rony Gunawan dragged the Jakarta outfit within five points but
Philippine Patriots went on an 8:3 run late in the period to establish a
64:52 lead with ten minutes to go.
Gabe Freeman, Coronel helped the visiting team to a 16-point buffer
early in the fourth term. The hosts threw all they had to cut the
deficit to 8 points but it was as close as they could get.
Jason Dixon and
Jerwin Gaco (191-F) sealed the winning outcome in the dying moments.
Gabe Freeman came up with 17 points and 19 rebounds for the winners.
Robert Wainwright (196-F-73, college:
Solano CC) and
Jerwin Gaco had 9 points apiece for the Patriots.
Rony Gunawan responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds for Satria Muda.
Alexander Hartman notched 14 points in the losing effort.
